It was the 24th of November, 2015 under the giant Redwood trees in Big Basin Redwood State Park, I took her hands to walk around the moss filled forest, and slight rain drizzling on our backs. Arms around her to keep her warm, and the sun barely peeking through the clouds, I thought this would be a great spot to surprise her with the gift I’ve held secretly for over a week. Setting up a tripod as I usually do to take selfies, I asked her to stand inside an old tree so I can focus my camera on her. We took our selfies, let some other tourists take their turn before I would switch the camera to video mode. Before I could get started, a complete stranger from a church group asked if she could pray for us (we were just dressed up and taking photos). She prayed for the sun to shine on us.
Soon after her prayers she was on her way, and the sun came out in full. A warm sensation fell on us. I led her hand closer to me. With no speech prepared, I took out my surprise embedded in another surprise, covered by a sack. Her first thought were socks! I took out a little Rilakkuma bear as I grunted my favorite word, “no.” Not socks, but a little bear with a zipper in the back for her real surprise. She grabbed the bear from my hands. “No, look inside” I grunted again. I knelt down as I unzipped the pocket and showed her the most perfect ring I could find for a Princess, 12 solitaire diamonds surrounding an oval blue sapphire set in 18-karat white gold. The same style ring worn by both Princess Diana and Princess Kate. We were greeted by a round of applause by all the tourists who watched us from a distance. This was my proposal to her that I want to spend the rest of my life with her. It was the most beautiful moment of both our lives. What was her answer? Watch the video and find out, I hope you enjoy it!
