A few years ago we photographed a city hall wedding of a shy and introverted couple. They were confident enough in our work to capture their special day in the way they experienced it, and not the way most photographers would force them to pose. We let them be themselves as we faded into the background, and one of us (Tony) even had the pleasure to be their signed witness. They enjoyed their photos so much that the bride’s sister, Tina, wanted the same storytellers for her wedding. Tina and Dongmin also claim themselves to be awkward and camera shy as with the majority of our couples. We get our energy from nervous giggles and having a clean slate to work our magic when it comes to wedding photography!
Tina and Dongmin were so cute in front of the camera because their interactions with each other are genuinely full of love and affection. We just facilitate the places to stand for perfect lighting. Dongmin really helped lighten the mood by being a ham in front of Tina and getting her naturally beautiful smile out, we didn’t do it. The wedding venue was a beautiful little spot called the Brooklyn Winery. I don’t think you could ask for more wood accent in a venue! Their decor were spot on, the floral arrangement were absolutely beautiful, the place was a great photo op in any corner we went. As if the couple couldn’t get any cuter, their Korean Hanbok kicked it up a notch. I will be honest, we thought this cute little venue and dinner would be just that, a casual wine and dine evening. Boy were we wrong. Once the DJ started – the dancing was non-stop through the last song, and it got pretty wild with the moves especially the groom! Oh, and one more thing, the vendor meal was easily one of the best meals we’ve had – worth coming back and paying for!
We thought the wedding was awesome, but we were blown away by the couple’s thank you card a few days later:
… More than your brilliant work, we really appreciated just how comforting your presence was the entire night. We can be pretty awkward, but you made us feel so comfortable and at ease; we even sometimes forgot that you were there (as evidenced by Dongmin’s dance moves).
That is why we do what we do.
