We traveled to Ukraine to photograph Sofia and Edward’s wedding. While it might have felt a little awkward or difficult to photograph a wedding where I needed translation between the family and I, after we warmed up it just became natural for me to be the behind the scenes photo-journalist. I could also just tell Olya what I wanted the couple to do and she would translate. Ukraine is a beautiful country and we got lucky with some crazy clouds and the beautiful church property.
I wasn’t ready for the reception at all in Ukraine. Luckily we were the guests and didn’t need to work as hard as we normally do. Their “short” wedding ended around 3am, and the parent dances were around 2:30am! There was so much food and alcohol for hours of endless feasting. I think it was a great experience, but after a 16 hour day, I think I’ll stick to American weddings.
