Mike proposed to Mariana at a tulip farm last year. We were there to help photograph the surprise and it was one of the cutest moments. You can always see the nerves of the guy as he tries to find the right moment to get down on one knee, with the ring burning a hole in their pocket. Mike tried one or two row of tulips to possibly get into position, but backed off last minute. It wasn’t until a small pep-talk from us that encouraged him to try the next row of tulips. Finally with the perfect spot, Mike got down on one knee and we started taking photos! You could see the genuine happiness and answer from Mariana because she started hopping up and down like a bunny.
Fast forward to our family trip to Curacao. It’s one of the most beautiful locations and since we would all be there with our camera gear too, taking a destination engagement session was a no brainer. We made sure to get up bright and early to catch sunrise light without anyone on the beaches. We drove through the famous tree tunnel as our first photo location before heading to shoot on sand and water. I had all my video gear, so we used this opportunity for Olya to take all the photos while I made a video of the session.
When I film our couples during a session, it’s not much different from a photo session because we always have them do actions and move naturally. We give them full directions, not on posing, but on how to interact with each other in a romantic or silly way they may never have done before. This adds excitement and adventure even for the couples. The video of them is really how we capture their love in photos too!
As easy as they were to photograph, one of the most difficult part of the session was getting into the water, but also the most fun! It’s a relief that once the session was near the end, the couple can mess up their outfit and whatever the outcome is, it’ll be worth it. We absolutely loved the results of the photos and videos. Mike and Mariana look like they are stranded on an island, but they have each other so that’s all that matters in the world.
